Saturn, Siblings, and Songwriting: Finneas’ Role in Billie Eilish’s Astrology

Besides her parents, one of the biggest constants in Billie’s life is her brother, Finneas, and his influence is something we will see in a large part of her birth chart. He’s four years older and naturally takes on that protective big-brother role, always looking out for her.

In November 2019, she released “everything i wanted” as a tribute to her bond with Finneas. Originally inspired by a period of deep depression, the song took over a year to complete. Finneas admitted he was worried about Billie at the time, feeling uneasy about writing something so dark in the moment. But Billie explained that turning her pain into music was healing, and they ultimately shaped the track around their sibling connection.

In the song, Billie Eilish describes a nightmare where everyone abandons her, capturing her fears about fame and self-worth. Even though she has the success she once dreamed of, she admits it often feels isolating and overwhelming. That contrast really highlights the emotional cost of success—it’s not all glamorous, and often it just means more pressure and more eyes on you. What keeps the song grounded is her bond with her brother, Finneas—his support gives her a sense of safety and reminds her she’s not alone, even when the pressure feels crushing.

Billie said, "Pretty much that whole song is about me and Finneas' relationship as siblings," and then, "the message behind the song is like... my brother is my best friend, and I have these dreams and these things happen, and no matter what happens, he's gonna always be there for me and it's the same the other way around." In Billie’s natal chart, her 3rd house—linked to siblings and writing—clearly reflects her bond with Finneas. Saturn and the North Node sit there in Gemini, and because Mercury (the ruler of Gemini) is placed in her 10th house in Capricorn, Saturn and Mercury form a mutual reception. The 10th governs reputation and public life, and in Capricorn it emphasizes discipline, authority, and the need to maintain mastery. This mutual reception links her career and public image with her writing and sibling relationships, highlighting Finneas’s central role in her success.

This creates a strong tie between her siblings (3rd house) and her career (10th house). Fittingly, Finneas plays a central role in her success, co-writing and producing much of her music.

Looking more closely at Saturn, in a day chart it tends to be more constructive, though here it’s in mixed condition. It gains support from benefics—Jupiter as its bound lord and a sign-based opposition from Venus—but also faces challenges from Mars, her most difficult planet, through a degree-based square. This dynamic points to the complexity of their relationship. It’s not just about being close siblings; their bond carries depth and weight. Finneas is someone who has stood by her through both light and very dark times, offering steady support when she’s needed it most.

Even when Finneas goes on tour on his own, he regularly makes time to check in on Billie.

“I call her constantly”, and then, “I just make sure she’s doing okay. I’ve always said, leading up to it and since she left, [he will say] "If you ever need some company, I’ll jump out and just come hang out with you, keep you company on the road."' (Daily Mail)

Of course, such a deep bond will still have its share of disagreements. In an interview with Andy Cohen, Finneas revealed that his biggest creative clash with Billie Eilish was over vulnerability. For Hit Me Hard and Soft, he encouraged her to be more open in her lyrics, and she ultimately delivered her most vulnerable work yet.

Billie has admitted that vulnerability doesn’t come easily, because being more vulnerable would mean sacrificing power and control, which makes her uncomfortable. She told Interview Magazine that she often hides her feelings to seem composed, a mindset that shaped much of the 2024 album. Many songs reflect her inner conflict: wanting to appear cool and detached while quietly wrestling with deep emotions.

It’s no surprise that relinquishing control is difficult for Billie, especially in her career, with her 10th house and Midheaven in Capricorn. While Saturn in a day chart is more constructive, it’s in mixed condition: supported by Jupiter and Venus, yet challenged by Mars through a forward degree–based square. Capricorn’s instinct for control and structure resists letting go, yet surrender is a crucial lesson. As Billie admitted in Interview Magazine,I really don’t like being — I was going to say out of control, but there’s ways that I do like being out of control.” Beneath her composed Capricorn exterior lies deep emotional vulnerability, a need for security, and a hidden streak of quirkiness that emerges only when she feels truly safe.

Mercury, Chiron, and Saturn: The Architecture of Billie Eilish’s Voice and Career

Looking closely at Billie’s 10th house of career and public image, Mercury sits in a tight conjunction—within 2 degrees—with her Midheaven, making it exceptionally prominent. Positioned angularly and so close to the MC, her Mercury is highly visible to the public, highlighting her natural Mercurial talents as a communicator and master of expression. It’s further strengthened by being in Capricorn and in mutual reception with its ruler, Saturn, while also ruling its own bound—essentially riding in its chariot. So Mercury is not combust by the Sun, despite it being within the 9-degree combust zone, which further supports its clarity and strength.

Adding depth to its strength, Mercury is conjunct Chiron, creating a powerful dynamic of introspection and transformation. Chiron represents our deepest wounds and the path to healing, and together with Mercury, it suggests that Billie’s voice carries pain, deep emotion, and wisdom.

And Billie’s voice is undoubtedly unmistakable—delicate yet haunting, with a breathy softness that feels almost like a secret being shared. Its fragility draws listeners in, creating the sense that she’s singing directly to you, blurring the line between performer and audience with an intimacy that’s rare in pop music.

Billie didn’t always sing with the distinct voice we know today. In an old video of her at 12 years old performing Alicia Keys’ Fallin’ on piano, her tone is closer to a standard contemporary style. Over time, though, she leaned into her vocal quirks, embracing a softer, more intimate delivery. Astrologically, this reflects her Mercury–Chiron 10th house conjunction in Capricorn: the struggle and eventual mastery of self-expression in the public eye. It suggests a search for validation from others while lacking it within, and the healing path lies in learning to trust her own voice rather than conforming to society’s expectations of success and acceptance.

It’s striking how clearly Billie’s chart reflects her career path and musical style, especially through the 10th house conjunction of Mercury and Chiron with her Midheaven in Capricorn. Mercury on the MC makes her voice and words central to her public identity, while Chiron adds a layer of fragility and depth, turning expression into a path of healing. This speaks to a lifelong journey of transforming personal wounds around self-expression and vulnerability into art that resonates universally. In Capricorn, this process is both disciplined and deliberate, shaping her music into something raw yet carefully constructed—balancing intimacy with structure, honesty with restraint.

Saturn, as ruler of her 10th, strengthens this theme. Placed in her 3rd house of communication and siblings, and in mutual reception with Mercury, Saturn directly ties her career to writing and collaboration with her brother, Finneas. It shows both the weight and responsibility carried in her public role, and the way her sibling bond is integral to her professional success. Saturn’s influence suggests that her achievements are built with endurance and maturity, and that her career path, while marked by challenges, will steadily deepen in authority and impact over time.

The 11th House: Fans, Friends, and a Brother Named Finneas

Billie’s Moon–Neptune–Uranus conjunction in Aquarius electrifies her 11th house, tying her emotions to her fans and communities in ways that are imaginative, volatile, and deeply connective. Yet because these planets are in Aquarius, Saturn is their ruler—and Saturn sits in her 3rd house of siblings, in close trine to the Moon and Neptune. We’ve already established Saturn’s positive influence on her career, and regarding the 11th house, Saturn creates a stabilizing channel: while her emotional life and public connections can feel overwhelming or unpredictable, Saturn provides grounding through communication, discipline, and especially through her relationship with Finneas.

In practice, this means her brother acts as an anchor amidst the waves of fame and fan culture. The trine shows that her sensitivity and creativity (Moon–Neptune) are given structure and form through Saturn’s steady influence, allowing her to turn raw emotion into crafted songs. Uranus adds the unconventional spark that makes her artistry fresh and original, but it’s Saturn that ensures those flashes of inspiration don’t scatter—it shapes them into music that resonates widely.

So while her 11th house planets open her up to the collective in profound, sometimes destabilizing ways, Saturn’s rulership and trine reveal how she grounds that energy: through her craft, her writing, and her bond with her brother, transforming vulnerability into artistry and chaos into something enduring.

Another important piece is Billie’s Lot of Spirit, which also lands in her 11th house. As Chris Brennan explains in his book Hellenistic Astrology - The Study of Fate and Fortune, the Lot of Spirit is associated with the soul and intellect, it points to the kind of work the soul is here to do, and the image we build our lives around. With this placement, Billie’s path is clearly tied to collaboration, communities, and the support of her fans. And of course—because everything in her chart seems to circle back to him—the Lot’s ruler, Saturn, trines it from the 3rd house of siblings. Once again, Finneas shows up as a cornerstone of her destiny. It’s almost as if the universe wrote “co-write with your brother” into her birth chart.

Faith, Fame, and Letting Go: Billie’s Sagittarius 9th House Story

A striking feature of Billie’s chart is her cluster of planets in Sagittarius—her Sun, Venus, and Pluto—all placed in the 9th house. This house governs spirituality, belief systems, higher education, long-distance travel, and the broader worldview we carry through life. The Sun is especially potent here, being in its joy in the 9th, often called the “House of God.” At the same time, Billie’s Venus is combust, lying just 6 degrees from the Sun and weakened by its proximity.

Her Sun sits exactly on the South Node, a point associated with decrease, release, and letting go. This symbolism resonates strongly with her childhood experiences around religion. Billie has shared that, as a little girl, she was “super religious for no damn reason,” despite her family not being religious at all. Over time, though, those beliefs naturally faded away—an embodiment of the South Node’s tendency to diminish or empty out what it touches. Her father, Patrick O’Connell, recalled with amusement how Billie developed a spiritual framework entirely on her own, noting that he never discouraged her but found it “pretty marvelous” that she had organized such deep thoughts as a child. (People)

In adulthood, Billie describes herself as neutral about spirituality. She has not pursued higher education, and though touring has taken her across the globe, she often admits that being away from home for too long is uncomfortable for her. This fits with the Sagittarian 9th house energy in dialogue with her Cancerian 4th house Jupiter—her sense of meaning and expansion is deeply tied to her roots and family, rather than formal study or constant travel.

Let’s circle back to Billie’s combust Venus. It’s not extreme combustion (that would be within a 3-degree-orb), because her Venus is 6 degrees from the Sun, but still in the combust zone, which is up to a 9-degree-orb. When Venus gets too close to the Sun, the areas of life Venus governs—love, relationships, money, and self-worth—can end up overshadowed by the Sun’s big “main character” energy. Basically, identity, purpose, and ego hog the spotlight. Since Venus rules Billie’s 2nd house (money, livelihood) and 7th house (partnerships), this fits her story pretty well. She’s been upfront about how fame has complicated both her relationships and her sense of self-worth—like people seeing Billie Eilish™ before they see Billie the human.

But here’s the thing: combustion doesn’t just vaporize Venus—it’s more like a mash-up. Venus blends with the Sun’s light, infusing Billie’s identity with beauty, artistry, and connection. Her creativity and self-expression are her Venus. You can hear it in her music, where themes of love, intimacy, and vulnerability always show up filtered through her one-of-a-kind lens. Songs like I Love You or Your Power drip with that combust-Venus vibe: beautiful but bittersweet, tender but searing, like heartbreak lit dramatically by a spotlight.

Now toss in the South Node conjunct her Sun, and things get even spicier. The South Node is all about release, decrease, and letting go, and since the Sun rules her 5th house of creativity, this suggests she doesn’t cling to ego in her art—it’s more about surrender. Billie has talked about struggling with self-image, depression, and the weird distortions of fame, which often push her to let go of control or validation. Instead of making music to flex or feed an inflated ego, she uses it to process and purge. Tracks like idontwannabeyouanymore and Everything I Wanted feel less like “look at me” anthems and more like open diaries set to haunting melodies.

Even though her Sun and Venus aren’t directly chatting with Jupiter, there’s still a subtle sympathetic connection between Sagittarius and Cancer in Hellenistic astrology. That ties her 9th-house Sun/Venus to her exalted Jupiter in the 4th—home, family, roots, emotional grounding. And sure enough, Billie’s creativity (Sun/5th), her values and relationships (Venus/2nd & 7th), and her emotional foundation (Jupiter/4th) are all interwoven in real life. Her parents and Finneas aren’t just her emotional support squad—they’re literally collaborators and co-creators in her music.

So, when you zoom out, Billie’s Sun–Venus–South Node combo paints a picture of an artist whose identity and creativity are all about transformation, release, and processing the messiness of being human. She doesn’t make art to inflate herself—it’s more like therapy through melody. And that’s exactly why her work hits so hard: she turns her personal struggles into something universal, her voice both achingly intimate and surprisingly collective.

Billie Eilish’s Ascendant and the Benefic Blessings in Her Chart

For a long time, before Billie Eilish’s birth certificate revealed a 12:17 PM birth time, many astrologers believed she was a Pisces rising—an image that seemed to fit her ethereal, otherworldly aesthetic. But in reality, Billie has an Aries Ascendant, a fiery rising sign that changes the picture dramatically. Aries rising gives her a direct, bold presence, and it marks Mars as her chart ruler. Yet, what makes her Ascendant truly fascinating is that it is conjunct not one, but two asteroids: Diana and Fortuna—both within one degree.

Fortuna on the Ascendant

Fortuna, the Roman goddess of luck and fate, governs the turning of the wheel of fortune. She represents the cycles of rise and fall, reminding us that what goes down must eventually rise again. In Billie’s chart, Fortuna conjunct her Ascendant suggests that the themes of chance, fate, and cyclical fortune are woven into her very identity and outward presence. With Fortuna in a fire sign, Billie may approach luck with a daring, risk-taking spirit—a willingness to leap even when the outcome is uncertain.

Diana on the Ascendant

Alongside Fortuna, we find the asteroid Diana, another daughter of Jupiter. Diana represents independence, freedom, and wildness in its purest form. In myth, she begged her father Jupiter to release her from marriage and motherhood so she could roam freely with her companions, the nymphs and hunting dogs. Her archetype speaks to sisterhood, feminism, individuality, and a deep connection to animals and nature.

Billie embodies this archetype strikingly. During the early Covid-19 lockdown, she fostered puppies through Angel City Pit Bulls and ultimately adopted one—her beloved pit bull Shark. Shark has since become her constant companion, even making his way into her music. His growls and play sounds can be heard on tracks like “I Didn’t Change My Number” and “The Greatest.” Diana’s signature connection to animals, freedom, and individuality is written all over Billie’s story.

Benefic Bound Lords Throughout the Chart

While Mars may be her chart ruler as an Aries rising, Billie’s chart is infused with benefic influence in remarkable ways. Both Diana and Fortuna—daughters of Jupiter—conjunct her Ascendant already emphasize Jupiter’s protective and expansive qualities. But beyond that, the majority of her planets are placed in the bounds of benefics (Jupiter or Venus).

  • Her Moon, Mars, and Jupiter are all in the bounds of Venus.

  • Her Saturn and Ascendant are in the bounds of Jupiter.

  • Only her Sun, Venus (combust), and Mercury (its own bound lord) fall outside this benefic pattern.

According to Demetra George in her book Ancient Astrology in Theory and Practice, Vol. 1, when a benefic planet is the bound lord, it operates with grace and moderation. It creates supportive conditions, expands the range of fortunate options, and encourages steady growth and attainable achievement. Instead of harsh punishment, benefic bounds bring protection, harmony, and reward.

A Chart Infused with Benefic Energy

Taken together, Billie’s chart is steeped in benefic energy while being grounded in Saturnian resilience and dedication. Even though she has Mars as her chart ruler, this martial edge is softened and supported by the presence of benefics as bound lords and the protective influence of Diana and Fortuna at her Ascendant. The result is a chart that combines Aries boldness with Jupiterian blessing and Venusian artistry, an identity that is both fiery and fiercely independent, yet deeply supported by cosmic grace.
